my red light journey

My personal journey with red light therapy began over five years ago following my second hip replacement.

During recovery I was looking for ways to support healing, reduce inflammation and improve mobility. After discovering red light therapy and using it consistently, I began to use it consistently and noticed a significant improvement in scar healing, reduced inflammation and greater ease of movement compared with my first recovery.

That experience sparked a deeper curiosity. Together with our NPD team at This Works, we began exploring the science behind red light therapy and its growing use in beauty and skincare. While the category has expanded rapidly in recent years, we also recognised a common challenge: consistency. People often want to treat multiple areas of the body, from stretch marks and scarring to signs of ageing, yet many devices are not designed to make regular, targeted use easy.

With more than 20 years of experience developing body care and award-winning oils such as skin deep dry leg oil, we saw an opportunity to take this further. Our goal was to create a topical formula that could work in synergy with red light therapy to support skin at a cellular level.

This led to the development of red light power serum, formulated with CoQ10, an ingredient known for its role in cellular energy and antioxidant protection, alongside actives designed to enhance the skin’s response to red light and prolong the benefits.

To explore the potential of this combination in real life, we began a consumer study over six months ago. Participants used red light across different areas of the body, both with and without the serum. Along the way we began to see encouraging results, not only in skin texture and resilience, but also in unexpected areas such as scalp health and hair density when used with red light.

We call this initiative The Red Light Project.

Once confined to dermatology clinics, red light therapy is now a mainstream, at-home ritual driven by consumer demand for non-invasive, results-led solutions. The red light body wrap uses 660nm red light and 850nm near-infrared light, two clinically recognised wavelengths used in cosmetic LED light therapy, to support visible improvements in skin and scalp.
