the neurojourney that rewrites your 5-9
Discover our first Eau De Parfum, a fine fragrance that harnesses the power of neuroscience in luxury perfumery, to transform your evening hours and sleep.

introducing: Own Time
With the uptick in busy work schedules, family juggles and overuse of screens, many people have lost their off switch. Today, our evenings are often a blur of mindless scrolling or to-do list ticking, when they should be used as an opportunity to step away from the stresses of the day. It’s about time you took back your Own Time.
This Works is proud to introduce a first-of-its-kind luxury neuroscent, specifically created to engage the parasympathetic nervous system. Own Time supports your brain and body as it transitions from fight-or-flight during the daytime to rest-and-digest. It uses a unique blend of terpenes, sesquiterpenes and an odourless molecule that has been shown to be able to support relaxation and sleep. Together, this powerful blend is supported by fMRI, EEG and HRV studies to help soothe the senses, reduce stress and support deeper, better-quality sleep.
This groundbreaking scent innovation is about more than sleep – it's designed to harness those precious evening hours by initiating a neurojourney from the moment you clock off, set foot into your home and spritz. Own Time supports the body’s natural Circadian Rhythm and encourages you to slow down and be present as you move through your evening rituals of eating, resting and connecting. It’s grounding, aromatic and envelops the body with a sense of safety and balance.
Own Time marks a significant shift into nervous-system care. As market leaders and pioneers in the sleep science space, it’s a natural progression for a brand like This Works, which is already firmly cemented in people’s wellness routines. Now, we’re taking sleep a step further into nervous system regulation and care, creating a portfolio of tangible solutions for more supported, well-rested and regulated lives.

what is a neurojourney?
Over a 24-hour period, our bodies undergo a series of natural processes that support our Circadian Rhythm, and these internal clocks govern our biological processes including when we feel hungry, sleep and wake. We can anchor or shift our Circadian Rhythm and support our bodies at each stage through external behaviours, such as eating or exercising at certain times of day, getting out in natural light first thing, or using scent as cues for our brains. This is where Own Time and the neurojourney come into play.
reclaim your evenings through ritual
Between 6 pm and 12 am, our bodies produce more melatonin and less cortisol, helping us move from stress into rest. While our hormones are shifting and we’re naturally gearing up to switch off, our modern lifestyles mean we’re working against this instinct, not with it. External factors like artificial light, device use, late-night work, and caring for children can throw the production of these essential hormones off kilter, making it extremely difficult to take the valuable time we so desperately need. Own Time can help act as a neuronal trigger, supporting your nervous system to switch into relaxation. However, it also required mindful behavioural change. Choosing behaviour that supports mental calm and physical relaxation will, over time, help the brain create new neural pathways and support balance of the nervous system. Support your neurojourney by making these neural changes by inhaling the fragrance for two seconds, exhaling for six, dropping your shoulders and looking out into the distance.

the power of scent
Functional Fragrances interact with real, measurable brain pathways, particularly those within the limbic system and autonomic regulation centres. When a scent is inhaled, aromatic molecules bind to olfactory receptors and trigger electrical signals in the olfactory bulb, travelling directly into areas of the brain involved in emotion, stress response, circadian rhythm, memory and cognitive regulation. This is why we call them “neuroscents”: fragrances that don’t just smell beautiful, but also work with neural circuits that govern stress, mood, focus and overall autonomic state. Own Time was created as a neural transition cue to help signal to the brain that the day is done, encouraging a shift from daytime alertness into a softer, more regulated evening mindset. Engineered using specific terpenes and sesquiterpenes found in essential oils, it supports the downshift from high sympathetic alertness into steadier parasympathetic states. In collaboration with neuroscientist Professor Gaby Badre, This Works Functional Fragrances have been assessed in a clinical setting using fMRI and EEG to understand which brain areas are activated, and these findings have been further validated in independent user and clinical studies.

the composition
Own Time opens with an invigorating burst with notes of Pink Peppercorn and Lemon Myrtle, it then smoulders with a heart of Cardamom and Olibanum. The Sandalwood and Amber lacing the dry down is softened with Musk and Clove for a scent that feels subtly intimate. A woody, ambery and aromatic Eau de Parfum of bold contrast. Spritz onto skin at 6pm to clock off from the day and help with natural shift from daytime alertness to evening calm.

neuroscience led wellbeing
Built on seven years of neuroscientific research, Own Time has been created terpene-up to activate the parasympathetic nervous system - your body’s natural rest-and-digest mode. Developed with leading experts and validated through user studies and a clinical pilot measuring heart-rate variability and sleep quality, it draws on techniques like fMRI and EEG to support deeper, better sleep. Our independent user studies of men and women aged 18-55+ over 28 days found Own Time wearers fell asleep faster and experienced improved sleep quality. When worn throughout the evening, they also felt calmer and more relaxed.*
