Hear from the This Works community as they share their personal sleep struggles and learn steps you can take toward peaceful nights.

Have you got a sleep story? Maybe it’s your own, or perhaps a friend, family member, or neighbour who’s had to work hard to find solutions and improve their sleep. If you have, I’d love to hear it. This season, we want to open up the conversation around sleep, sharing stories with our wider community about how we’ve each found ways to rest better.

This season, we want to open up the conversation around sleep, sharing stories with our friends, neighbours, and wider community about how we’ve each found ways to rest better. Sleep is fundamental to our health and wellbeing. It’s not always something that can be fixed with a quick solution, but over time, we’ve learned that there are small rituals and practices that can make a real difference.
Many of you already use our deep sleep pillow spray, and if it’s helped you, I’m so glad. But even if it hasn’t, and you’ve discovered your own ways to sleep better, we’d still love to hear from you. We want to share your experiences with our community, on our social channels and beyond, so your voice can inspire others.
As a thank you, anyone whose story we feature will receive a complimentary product from our Deep Sleep range.

Thank you and sleep well this autumn season.

If the subject of sleep fills you with dread, or the thought of the night ahead leaves you with a knot in your stomach, you’re not alone. From exhausted parents and anxious students to those navigating hormonal changes or the pressures of demanding jobs, the truth is that people from all walks of life are struggling to achieve the recommended 8–9 hours of sleep per night.
Good quality sleep comes with numerous positive benefits, both physically and mentally. It’s the foundation of what is termed ‘lifestyle medicine’ - the practice of improving your health outcomes through the behaviours we can enact day in, day out. As pioneers in sleep science since 2004, This Works has made it its mission to bring innovative, clinically proven solutions and research that put dreams back within reach to its customers. This season, we aim to shift the narrative on sleep by sharing challenges from our community of dream seekers and solutions that can help bring meaningful rest into reach.
When we sleep well, we process emotions, think clearly and feel more motivated. When we don’t, everything feels harder. Whatever else you do for your wellbeing, prioritising sleep will make the biggest difference – and we’re here to help you do just that.
Below, we share real sleep stories from our community – the good, the bad and the ugly – to help others feel less alone, along with expert advice and suggestions on how you can work towards better sleep quality.

Debra:
“My struggles started as a child, too much overthinking and worrying over the slightest thing. As an adult, nothing has improved. I've tried counting sheep, breathing exercises, you name it, I’ve done it. Nothing works.”
Debra’s story is not unusual. For those with a racing mind, having a ‘wind down’ ritual that signals to the brain and body that the working day is over can really help the brain make the switch into calm and leave the worries of the day behind. It can be as simple as turning off bright lights and lighting a deep sleep heavenly candle, infused with essential oils proven to prepare the nervous system to downregulate in a way that promotes sleep and calm.
Emma:
"Running my own business and two busy sport-mad daughters means late nights. By the time I get into bed at around midnight, my mind starts thinking of tomorrow - What’s on? What have I forgotten? What do I need to remember? Work deadlines? The usual sleep pattern is waking every few hours and not enough deep sleep.”
Disrupted nights, where you wake frequently, toss and turn, and feel groggy in the morning, can be an incredibly frustrating cycle. Our sleep plus pillow spray was designed for this very reason. It uses encapsulated bursts of Deep Sleep Functional Fragrance, which are motion-activated. This means the essential oil blends are released throughout the night as and when you need them, helping you stay asleep for longer and wake feeling refreshed. It's a potent blend that's proven to improve sleep quality - 94% felt they had a less disturbed sleep*

Anna:
"I never used to have issues with sleep, but since a few years ago, when I entered a perimenopause stage, I sometimes have difficulties with either falling asleep or waking up very early. I have tried meditating, herbal teas, a bath before sleep and other ways. I definitely notice that it also depends on my cycle stage."
Sleep struggles during perimenopause are extremely common, and we've tested many of our sleep care products on peri-menopausal, menopausal and post-menopausal women for this reason. My wrinkles midnight moisturiser is a combined skin and sleepcare product that uses active ingredients like Granactiv Retinoid to target fine lines and wrinkles and is also infused with Deep Sleep Functional Fragrance to promote sleep.
78% of peri-, post- and menopausal women had a more restful sleep using sleep plus pillow spray.**

Jennifer:
"My sleep has been disrupted for years... stress, a divorce, a verbally abusive neighbour and now also a possible cancer scare. I am desperate for a good night's sleep ... because this now seriously affects my state of mind and my health."
Many factors can be at play when it comes to sleep. Hormonal shifts, lifestyle factors and health-related worries are a perfect storm for disruptions. Using a bodycare product like deep sleep body whip, which harnesses the power of affective touch (slow, intentional movements on the skin), can help downregulate the nervous system and prepare the brain and body for sleep. We know through extensive fMRI brain imaging studies that the Functional Fragrance in deep sleep bodycare activate the part of the brain that connects with reward and calm. Setting up scented cues (like the application of our deep sleep body whip) as your day draws to an end can help manually switch the brain into sleep mode.
Anouska:
“Getting to sleep isn't a problem at the moment. I take magnesium tablets and use pillow spray ... I was recently told if we want to get better at something, we should try harder. Unfortunately, this doesn't work with sleep, which resonated with me and may resonate with others, as the harder you try to sleep, the worse you get."
Good sleep hygiene and habits we can adopt throughout the day, all the way up to bedtime, can make a significant difference to our night. Reviewing your sleep space to ensure the room temperature is cool and dark, your bed clothes are breathable and you’re utilising darkness at night by switching off devices and all harsh overhead lighting can promote sleep. Alongside this, it can be helpful to build rituals that involve clinically proven products help you wind down and drift off. Having a warm bath with deep sleep bath oil, followed by applying deep sleep beauty oil to the skin and finishing with a spritz of sleep plus pillow spray, creates a trio of extremely powerful solutions that use Lavender, Camomile and Vetivert to envelop the senses and calm the mind and body.
Marion:
"I struggle to sleep due to chronic leg pain following surgery... I find it hard to switch off. I wash my face before bed, put some This Works deep sleep body whip on my shoulders and arms, and ... I spray my pillow with This Works deep sleep pillow spray, which does help me relax while I read before turning the light off."
Caron:
"I have struggled with the elusiveness of sleep my entire life. This Works deep sleep spray has cut down the time I spend tossing & turning before I fall asleep. I don't think I'll ever be asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow, but the pillow spray combined with the pulse point roller has certainly made a huge difference in my life - my night-time routine is far more restful now & no longer something to be dreaded. I've been using these products for years."
Siobhan:
"I've always had trouble falling asleep & was diagnosed with AuDHD 2 years ago, which helped explain my sleep struggles... The Deep Sleep range is the most effective thing I've tried to help me drift off. I remember the first time I bought, thinking the name "This Works" was a bit cheesy, but it actually, genuinely does!"
