Despite our best efforts, good quality, restorative sleep can remain just out of our grasp along with its benefits. Whatever else you do, choosing to prioritise good quality sleep will make the biggest difference to your health and wellness.

Sleep is your place to dream and your place to heal. It is the basis of what is termed ‘lifestyle medicine’ - the practice of improving your health outcomes through the behaviours we can enact day in, day out.

Bring sound sleep and dreaming into reach this autumn with This Works. From 24/7 access to sleep support through our website chat portal and Sleep Science 101 back-to-basics content, to hearing the sleep journeys of others like you, you will not be alone. Listening to other people’s experiences - the good, the bad and the ugly - can go a long way in easing the feelings of isolation and anxiety that sleep struggles can bring.

Over one third of adults report difficulty with sleep, and This Works has made it its mission since 2004 to bring pioneering solutions and research that put dreams back within reach.

We can all do something to improve our sleep: what we do in the daylight hours, how we wind down in the evening and what rituals we put around the hours before and during sleep. We’ll help you identify the opportunity and empower you with the right solution.

Together, as a community of dream seekers, we can shift the narrative, share challenges and solutions, and bring meaningful rest into reach.

Poor sleep quality and broken nights can leave you feeling powerless. You have agency when it comes to sleep, and your daytime choices - how you move, unwind and prepare for rest all play a meaningful role in shaping sleep. Small actions and shifts in your waking hours can dramatically influence your sleep and your overall health. By incorporating circadian hygiene into other areas of your 24 hours - not just at bedtime - we choose to prioritise getting better sleep and ultimately better health. Read on for our Autumn products and protocols, sleep hacks and sleep science - it’s time to take some action, better sleep is within reach dream-seekers.

use deep sleep pillow spray for daytime rest.

Our iconic deep sleep pillow spray isn’t just for bedtime. It can be used throughout the day to support your nervous system, helping regulate the parasympathetic response and reduce the impact of stress on the body. By calming the system during waking hours, you set the foundation for deeper, more restorative sleep at night.

light as a pathway to better sleep.

We know from our research into the circadian rhythm that light has a deep connection with or sleep/wake hormones. In the evening light wavelengths lengthen, signalling to the body to start producing the sleep hormone melatonin. Encouraging that gentle natural transition by taking 20 minutes outdoors and then switching off the overhead lights inside and striking up a candle will encourage the body and the nervous system to downregulate in a way that promotes sleep and calm.

smell and sleep are linked.

It’s easy to forget that the sense of smell is a very primitive body system that’s there to help us. With a direct connection to the limbic system in the brain, our sense of smell can trigger down regulation of the nervous system and really influence our predisposition to sleep. We know through extensive fMRI brain imaging studies that our functional fragrances within our deep sleep bodycare light up the part of the brain that connects with reward and calm. Setting up scented cues (like the application of our deep sleep body whip or deep sleep beauty oil) as your day draws to an end- can help manually switch the brain into sleep mode.

taking time for touch.

Small moments of selfcare in the daytime could play more of a role in how you sleep than you think. Applying skin deep dry leg oil after the gym or at your desk opens a moment for ‘positive touch’ in your day - where touching the skin in a repetitive motion can foster feelings of calm and help co-regulate your nervous system.

“I struggle to sleep, due to chronic leg pain following surgery. I wear prescription pain plasters on my leg, take medication which does have a 'positive' side effect in which it makes me sleepy, however sometimes I find it hard to switch off. I wash my face before bed, put some This Works deep sleep body whip on my shoulders and arms and then clean my teeth. I spray my pillow with This Works deep sleep pillow spray, which does help me relax while I read before turning the light off…Zzz” - Marion

“I have struggled with the elusiveness of sleep my entire life. This Works deep sleep pillow spray has cut down the time I spend tossing & turning before I fall asleep. I don't think I'll ever be asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow, but the pillow spray combined with the pulse point roller have certainly made a huge difference in my life - my night-time routine is far more restful now & no longer something to be dreaded. I've been using these products for years - since before Covid.” - Caron
