We conducted a study using brain imaging (fMRI) that looked at the effects of Ylang Ylang oil on the brain and stress. The scans showed that Ylang Ylang activated certain brain areas linked to emotions and stress, like the amygdala and insula.

When participants were exposed to stressful tasks or angry faces, smelling Ylang Ylang helped calm their brain's stress response. It was particularly effective in reducing activity in the insula, a part of the brain that gets activated when something grabs your attention or feels emotionally intense, suggesting that Ylang Ylang might help to reduce stress and emotional reactions.
Pilot Study 2019

When tested with our This Works Panel, our Stress Check Functional Fragrance, blended with Ylang Ylang, demonstrated a similarly calming effect:

- 86% said the fragrance made them feel calmer*
- 85% said the fragrance made them feel more relaxed*
- 82% said the fragrance of the product made them feel less stressed*
- 83% said the fragrance created a relaxed environment*
