Bed Sleep Hygine

The way we formulate our products is inspired and led by our understanding of the body clock.

Innovation is driven through our understanding of today’s lifestyle and its demands, fine tuned by the individual’s own life experience. We then translate these needs into clean, efficacious products that work for your skin in synergy with your body clock, 24 hours a day.

This Works Superblends is a three element ingredient system that harnesses the best in nature, at its cleanest and at its most effective. Our Superblends are designed to work in synergy with the body clock to maximise skin performance.

We use high quality ingredients at therapeutic levels with data to support our claims. And we test our all of products in vivo during the development process with user panels and clinical trials. And that’s how we know are products work because our panel tell “this works” if not, we won’t launch it.”

Our Superblends trio is made up of naturally derived, scientifically proven ingredients at therapeutic levels; botanical oils expertly blended by This Works specialists; and therapeutic fragrances help to improve wellbeing, sleep and skin.

Our Superblend ingredients are authentic, clean and with their integrity intact (we put in what we need, we leave out what we don’t).

We have gained a worldwide reputation for our Superblends, because they work. And it is our combination of the three elements that continues to set our skincare apart. Our Superblends deliver potent, powerful solutions that are greater than the sum of their parts.

Our use of actives

These are proven actives derived from nature. We don’t use ingredients because they’re ‘on trend’, we never have. We use ingredients because their benefits are well documented. Each one has been scientifically proven for their skincare benefits – put simply, they work. Take vitamin C (find it in our Light Time range, for instance), well known for its multiple benefits from antioxidant protection to boosting collagen to gentle, pigmentation-reducing skin brightening

Rooted in science: The actives we use are the gold standard, they come from a roster of tried and tested ingredients put through their paces by skincare biochemists - scientifically tested and proven to work. We use these ingredients at the highest levels required to deliver their specific skin benefit. In addition and key to the This Works’ 24 hour skincare system, they are selected to work in synergy with the 24 hour body clock.

Our heritage with therapeutic fragrances

I have been interested in the use of bioactive natural products, plants and herbal medicine since I started practising Yoga over 35 years ago. The lifestyle of a yogi is not just about the postures. The philosophy urges clean living and a gentler more holistic way of looking after mind and body.

This includes diet and how to treat minor and chronic malaises.

I started by reading the works of great pioneers of modern aromatherapy like Dr Jean Valnet and Micheline Arcier who used blends of essential oils to treat all kinds of minor ailments, aches and pains.

And I was lucky enough to meet Micheline Arcier who worked with Valnet and Margaret Maury, a biochemist, and was inspired by her passion for essential oils.

Maury and Arcier developed early massage techniques designed to benefit the skin, enhance mood and relieve pain. Luckily for me, I went to Arcier’s London clinic many years ago when I was first pregnant. I had regular “pregnancy” massage with specific aromatherapeutic oils and have always credited my easy delivery to that and my Yoga practice.

But it wasn’t only the effectiveness of the treatment that inspired me; it was the divine scents of oils expertly blended together to produce a fragrance complex enough to be considered on a par with sophisticated perfumes. My favourites include a mélange of ylang ylang, rose, cedarwood, patchouli, neroli, frankincense and tuberose- to me, the most delicious scents on earth.

So the premise with This Works was at once practical- the products have to perform- and yet also sensual: they must be a pleasure to use.

Since most modern medicines (aspirin, morphine, etc.) have been developed out of natural products and plants, it seems like an obvious idea to make cosmetics using the same principles. This means sourcing quality ingredients, proven actives derived from nature, botanical oils and plant waters- and formulating thoughtfully both for the customer and for the planet, to produce a safe booster of health and energy as well as something that smells beautiful.

Many people don’t realise that if you compromise or economise on raw materials- adding cheap or mineral oils, synthetic fragrance, GM ingredients or worse still sulphates to a formula, you destroy the effectiveness. The quality and purity of as well as the percentage of ingredients used are all vital to the synergy – to ensuring that the actives work to maximum effect. In essence, all of this background enables us to finally launch a product onto the shelves and to confidently say- This Works. But in the end, if a customer starts putting a cream onto their face or spraying their pillow, their sigh of satisfaction comes in great part because of the scent.
